hey have these:

hdd with os that doesnt work

  • let's call this hdd #1
  • it's laptop size

empty ssd with nothing on it

  • want to clone hdd #1 to empty ssd
  • it's laptop size

a laptop with hdd

  • hdd has os that works
  • let's call this hdd #2

need to clone data from hdd #1

  1. what items to get to clone hdd #1 into ssd?
  2. where to put in the empty ssd?
  3. what cables do  to get to clone hdd #1 into ssd?
  4. do you connect this cable to the laptop with hdd #2?
  5. can you use an 'enclosure' device to do cloning? if so what item to get?
  6. if use an 'enclosure', what are the steps to use it to clone?

pls just list all the options of how to do that - that would be helpful

dunno how this works

1. Ya get the same broken os, now on a ssd.

2. IDK, does the laptop/desktop have sapce for it.

3. You need cables to plug in a second drive, so normally a sata power + data cable.

4.  No, You only need the drive your cloning from, why is the laptop listed?

What is yoru goal here? If you have a broken os, just reinstall windows.

  5. what are full steps so can understand what you mean

What do you mean by a broken os on the hdd? If the os has issues, cloning won't help.

Id do a reinstall here on the ssd. Don't try to clone.

if ur talking about hdd #1, no cos broken os

if ur talking about hdd #2, yes and i dont know if it has space, dunno computer stuff

but how to clone hdd #1 to ssd? asked in op

pls just list all the options of how to do that - that would be helpful

What are the sizes on the hdds and ssd here?

What are the specs on the system with the hdd you want to clone from?

Normally id just boot from a usb stick with a os with cloning tools. THen you won't need the laptop at all.

i duno what you mean by 'system' with hdd #1

in op, i never said there were any other computers

instead i asked what items do i need to get, and all the different ways to do cloning

there are no other computers, i never said there were any other computers

it's just an hdd

does that affect anything?

What capacity are the drives? You can noramlly only clone from smaller drives to the same size or bigger drives.

Ok then. Id get a usb to sata adapter like this guy https://www.amazon.com/Drive-Adapter-Cable-Support-Black/dp/B07S9CKV7X/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=usb+sata&qid=1616526835&sr=8-4.

What os is the laptop running? Use a tool like dd on the laptop to make a image from the hdd, then clone it over to the ssd.

It connects to the hard drive and the laptops usb port. Im assuming you have a sata hdd, but you haven't said so.

Then use tools like hdd raw copy to make a image of the old hdd, then plug the ssd in and put that image on the ssd.

what are the steps for something like an 'Enclosure' way

https://www.amazon.com/QNINE-Enclosure-Adapter-Included-Samsung/dp/B07J9WNN9H

like how this whole thing work?

what are the steps of the 'Enclosure' way of cloning? maybe it'll be easier

or maybe better, or maybe its just the same

Make a image of the hdd on the laptops drive. Then plug the ssd in. Then put that image on the ssd. Or buy a second usb to sata adapter.

What model of ssd do you have? That enclosure will only work with m.2 nvme drives. Those enclosures can't clone drives either, you still need the laptop to do the cloning.

so if do that then can skip entire 'image' thing?

if so maybe that would be easier

There made to turn a internal ssd intel a external ssd. Its just a usb adapter. You can use them for cloning, but they work like any other adapter.

What model? There are many wd blue ssds out there.

Works about the same, imaging on the laptop just saves you from buying the second adapter.

Its the size of the first hdd. So a 500gb hdd will make a 500gb image

So thats a 2.5in sata ssd. It will work like any sata drive. THey have a m.2 nvme version of the wd blue ssds that use difference connectors and protocols

3 minutes ago, cloneclone said:

You already have the ssd, its often cheaper, copy data from a dead laptop. Lots of reasons.

but i dun knw how to use it

i assume they're all the same, and it dont really matter which one you use

like some enclouseures can damage the drive? or no its all the same

im gonna try using this one/way

but i dont know how to use it

which slot does hdd #1 go?

which slot does ssd #1 go?

A or B, it doesnt have instructions

then ill go find out w/e the best free cloning software, and will see if it works

THe enclosure you linked won't work here at all. It only works with m.2 drives, and you have 2.5in hdds and ssds only. The ssd won't fit in that enclosure. THis enclosure would work as its made for 2.5in hdds.

What model? There should be a manual online for it.

Id make sure to double check, as if you put the drives in wrong you wipe the data on the hdd.

well maybe tehy can use for backups in future

BOth desktops and laptops use it, but you don't have a m.2 drive here.
