Are these voltages okay? Is this because of the extensions?

Tech Reprise
Go to solution Solved by lgcas,

The 5v and 12v are still in spec, 5v minimum is 4.7v and the 12v minimum is 11.4v, so should be fine, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Recently I installed some 16 AWG cable extensions from Cooler Master and my voltages dropped a bit after that which is normal as per laws of Physics.

Now in idle voltages are

+1.8 V    1.824 V
+3.3 V    3.328 V
+5 V    5.016 V
+12 V    12.038 V

But during gaming it drops to

+1.8 V    1.824 V
+3.3 V    3.328 V
+5 V       4.996 V
+12 V    11.994 V
They are near the Advertised limit, that drop is what is bothering me.

You are correct, and this is also why motherboards (and other components, obv) have their own voltage regulators and other power delivery stuff on them.

yes they are in Spec. -5% lowerside tolerance on each rail but is it normal for voltage to drop that much?
12.091 to 11.994?

As you said, it's just voltage drop from the extensions, but in my eyes it's not a massive drop. I run at idle around 12.02v.

Yes, idle is 12.038 for me.

Previously it used to drop maybe from 12.091 to 12.038

Now it drops from 12.038 to 11.994 during gaming.

So its the extensions at play.

Atleast its better than the previous Corsair unit I had. It used to fluctuate between 11.8-12.05 on idle.

That is an almost perfect result. You're worrying too much.

That's well within normal range so don't worry about it.

That's not a huge drop.

You're not just adding extra length with extension cables but also extra connectors which add a small amount of resistance as well.

You're worrying about the voltage readings way too much. You're not having any issues with the PC are you?

With a previously blown Corsair CX and a dead Cooler Master, its better to be safe than sorry.

If voltages drop below 11.8V in a year or so I will RMA it as Antec (EAG Gold 2020 rebranded SeaSonic Focus GM) gives instant replacement for PSU.

Just checked with a T-RMS Multimeter. Voltages on PSU end are fine.

The slight lows are caused by the extensions as many of you have said.

Thanks a lot guys for the help.

An update.

I removed the extensions as voltage was dropping wayy too much and its indicative of a fault in the cables.

Reverted back to the old psu cables, voltages haven't fluctuated under 12v.
