Decade old topic... gtx970 or r9 290 or r9 390 help a newbie out lets choose one of this budget Gpus in 2021

Hello.

I'm a total noob when it comes to pc. But after sometime thinking and planing, finally decided to build myself a PC. Parts are coming in a week, but except the Gpu. Was planing a single pc streaming setup but then 1660's are out of stock everywhere(I don't live in USA btw), and getting 3000series atm is no no, So decided to go with a decent budget option for the time  bein.

Here is my parts:

Cpu: ryzen 5 3600

Mobo: Msi mortar max b450m

Ram: Crucial Ballistix 16g in dual 3200mhz

Storage: some kingston nvme and 2tb 7200rpm hdd

Psu: haven't decided yet but gonna get 600w one

And some cheap as case. I can live with that

And 1080p 144hz display to go with it, thinking about upgrading to 1440p in some time tho not soon.

So, here is how this is looking right now,

Gtx 970 4gb ... 144 usd

R9 390 4gb  ...  134 usd

R9 290 4gb  ...  115 usd

Seller is telling me they are all new, but we all know that's total bs. But I'm ok with that, as long as they runs.

So, Happy to hear your opinions guys

Well that's one for the 970. Because of the power consumption may I ask?

The 390x and the 970 has practically the same performance. Electricity being pretty expensive in my country, i think the extra cost on the 970 will pay for it self.

It is. There is a cheaper 4g variant. But I'm little confused, the seller listed it as 4gb, but on the specs sheet it clearly says 8gb.

What games do you usually play/stream?

On my 970 it was mainly osu!

I tried streaming MHW on it and it was fine, just that my CPU was the bottleneck (can't run the game and obs at same time)

Though I suspect if my CPU wasn't being poopy, the GPU should encode it just fine, as I always used shadowplay in 1080p to record stuffs

On older reddit topics, almost everyone is recommending r9 390 over 970 or even r9 290. But I really don't see any justification for their almost ×2 power consumption.

Hmmmmmm... hmmmmmmmmm... hmm... Do you really think you could stream MHW at 1080p on 970? I'm not so sure. Isn't that a very demanding title? Also, tbh I think shadowplay gives less sharpness, blurry, grainy look on graphics heavy games?

Nvenc have little impact on performance, so why not?

As for blurriness, the nvenc on 900 series would be equivalent to software x264 medium or fast, I think

So it's not too bad

Gtx 970 4gb ...

which model?

ref 970 really sucks , having 200 to 300mhz lower clock than som aib model , and aib can even clock 150 to 200mhz more

anyway 970 is the way to go

although it just runs 40 to 55avg fps in most games , high settings

390 with 8g of vram cant go wrong with that.

Good options are RX5808g or gtx 1060 6G

4g cards are short for 1080p, For example monster hunter can use way more then 4g of vram at 1080p

For a budget GPU put the ones that have 4g vram or less to the side and look for 8g and 6g options.

Seller just decided to add 20$ more to msi asus and gigabyte one for some reason. So now its 167ish for those 3 and 144 is for some Chinese models I guess.. iGame, coloful etc.

570 580 1060 1070 1660 s/ti everything I can find at now is atleast doubled their Msrp prices. Used. All of them.

That'sthe reason why I thought, maybe I should just find something that works at low, for now then wait till I can get myself a 3060ti or even 3070.
