Bios and Chipse

Just got a new Asus tuf x570 and was wondering if is should even bother updating the bios since everything seems to work fine. Also should I upgrade the chipset or would that also risk bricking the board?

If it's running fine there is no need to update the BIOS.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

 

Get the chipset from the mobo manufacturer website.

Rule of thumb is to update your bios every few months (and if you are concerned about the bricking get the second newest release), but the bios they shipped you with the motherboard is likely only a few months old anyway, so you can wait.r

Whose rule of thumb is that? In my i.t. days, the rule was never update unless there is a good reason such as a security or critical failure mitigation.

In IT you probably worked mostly with OEM boards which seldom had frequent (if any) bios updates.

 

On after market boards, you will see a lot of updates that could involve, better memory compatibility, improve system performance and add cpu support.

 

It really depends on the system and the bios update of when and why you'd update the Bios.
