For best results do you apply a pea size and thats all or do you apply a pea size and spread it over the cpu?????

yes, i was told to apply a grain of rice, but a pea is similar enough

i use the line method to follow the die shape

Spreading it out could potentially get air bubbles trapped in there, which you won't get with letting it spread from the pressure
