There are a lot of good options around the $100 to $150 mark, what kind of budget do you have for your PC?

I'll say you also want to look at the features each board has such as the number of USB ports and so on. If it doesn't have what you need or want you certainly won't be happy with it regardless of model tier or whatever else.
Just make sure whatever you get will work for you and your needs.

With a $2000 budget an X570 motherboard can be a good purchase, gives you good room to upgrade if you choose as well as a more robust feature set.

Something like this, which has a BIOS flash button to let you update in case the BIOS is out of date for the CPU, is very useful.

With that budget a good B550 or X570 is easily possible. Just check like a features comparison, as both are great chipsets if you get a good one. X570 has more features usually but is usually pricier. Compare back IOs and stuff but just choose one you think will suit your needs.

Big nerd.

What's a good mid-range motherboard for the ryzen 5 5600? I've seen some suggestions for a B550 and X570, but I'm not sure which one is better. Do the brands matter?

A good budget board that I'd recommend  is the MSI b550-a pro.
For a $2000 budget a 5600x is a little well, underwhelming, but it'll serve fine, especially if you're just gaming.
If you're looking for a midrange board, the B550 AORUS ELITE v2 is pretty good, it has q flash plus.
If you're looking for a higher-end board I'd go for a b550 aorus master.
What does your entire build look like? Are you willing to pay scalper prices?

Any reason why you should go for that over a B550 aorus master? Is there a difference between ASRock's bios flash button, and gigabyte's q-flash?

I forgot that the master had q-flash plus instead of regular q-flash

My build right now is literally only the 5600x lol. I just started looking into PC's about a week ago so all the terms and stuff are pretty new to me. I'd rather not pay for scalper prices, but if I end up within budget then I'd be fine.

Sweet. I can make you a build for $2000 if you want? I just need what you're going to do with it, and you might want to add specific details such as I want a case with __, or I want at least__ gpu.

that'd be awesome!

I'm gonna game a bit (valorant, pubg, cod, csgo, maybe others) discord, and got some online school so zoom and google. I'm going for a white set-up. Not really sure how gpu's work and the terminology for it so... I'm not planning on overclocking. Feel free to ask more questions (just keep in mind I'm a total noob haha).

Is the x570 overkill for this cpu though? I do want it to be so that I can do upgrades in the future without replacing motherboard.

It's overkill but it's not ridiculous overkill. It offers a reasonable upgrade path and feature set, and generally high end X570 boards look really cool too

Do u have any suggestions for white x570 then? Going for a white build but if a black one will give me petter performance then it would be fine too.

I'm a big fan of the Asus prime X570 motherboards, but the downside is they don't have BIOS flash buttons (or the Prime X570 Pro does and I forgot)

My girlfriend has a white build and it turned out great

Got my prime X570-P for $150 on B&H, for a motherboard in the A tier of our local tier list I don't think that's bad value at all. Clean looks, not lacking any important I/O, etc.

Uh, totally didn't bail on you, but here's your list:

List is for the most part white, If you're willing to do a teardown of the GPU you can paint/spraypaint/plastidip or something it white, basically all white cards are overpriced. You might want more storage or more ram, If you're willing to pay more you could upgrade the ram, storage I might just recommend upgrading down the road. The B550-A gaming isn't that great of a motherboard-when compared to others- but it will get the job done well, even for a 5900x and even if you want to try overclocking on it. The board is in very high demand though, It's basically out of stock everywhere, and you'll need to get a wifi card as well if you want bluetooth and wireless wifi.

It's using SiC639's in a (4+2)x2 config It looks like? Something like that, which is pretty solidly 'meh' to me. VRMs don't really look impressive but probably will get the job done just fine, I can't really find any standout features of the board. I own a z490-v, It's fine I guess? It's just not really anything special.
