Hi 🙂

I get all these broken Apple full keyboards (either the slim USB ones or the slim wireless one). Most of the keys work fine but a few of them (generally on either sides) are broken. Either unresponsive or another characters is entered when the key is pressed.

Are these keyboards super fragile?

Is there anything that could be done to fix them? Or is it a Louis Rossman-level kind of job? Or are they good for the garbage?

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Best,

-a-

Those keyboards are very sensitive to water, and if any water gets in them they'll have weird problems or break completely.

Based on what you said, this seems like what happened. Unfortunately, there's not a way to fix them outside without replacing the PCB at least that I know of, and that's very risky as if you mess up separating the shells the keyboard's useless.

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

They didn't get any water damage but some of them were pressed a little too hard or slightly bent.

The wireless one got broken after just manipulating it while holding the sides.

Very sensitive indeed I guess.

so -> garbage, right? What a waste...

Thank you for your input

Yes they are fragile, once i drop soda on a single key, and it doesn't work, try to clean it ends up broke the switch.

There's no way to repair it, those m'fukers glued everything down, even if you can take it apart, you won't be able to restore it, i bet not even Louis Rossman can handle it.

You can check some youtube videos for deconstruction, i can't find anyone can make it work again.

I must say i love that keyboard a lot, such a waste.

You can sell it for cheap, for someone looking to replace the keys.

I have listed mine $10 for 6 months no dice, lol.

From my experience they aren't fragile when it comes to physical use and abuse (I've got a couple of them - I use one at my desk and two more in my workshop area), but they are sensitive to water. You could sell them for parts - I'm sure someone could use the keycaps.
