Nvidea Optimus Bypass

I was thinking about picking up a rog strix g17 2021 but was concerned over performance loss using nvidea Optimus. I understand that there is a bypass by using the usbc port on the back but I would like to game on the display itself. My question is that if I have the laptop plugged into a dock constantly through that USB c port going to 2 monitors, but I don't display the game on those externals, would Optimus still be bypassed or would I have to display the game on an external monitor?

Optimus cannot be bypassed with the onboard monitor. It's hard wired to the iGPU.

Is there no way at all to turn it completely off? Or any intention to add such a feature?

It's a hard wired implementation as I have said. If your laptop is built to use it, there's no going back without heavy modding (connecting the onboard display to the port meant for external displays for example).

 

The whole point of Optimus is to handle the switching on the fly. In the past gaming laptops have a switch on them dedicated to switching GPUs in use and it requires the laptop to be turned off before.switching. As Optimus was developed and later implemented, the switches are gone. The general public just prefers this way.
