So i have this 2 TB Segate Hard Drive that I just bought, (WAS NEVER USED) and I put it in my case, and I left it there for a while, and then I came back totally forget about it, I picked up the case was gonna move it somewhere else and the hard drive fell from about 2'8 feet, and I don't have a CPU for the computer yet so its not gonna power on. So I'm asking will it survive?

HDDs are pretty sensitive to physical shock, so chances are that it probably will have some sort of defect. You may be fine and it will work in the beginning but I honestly wouldn't trust that drive any more (by storing important data on it). Maybe you will experience a drive failure one day to the other.

since it's new, I got a 5 year warranty (or something) if its confirmed that it's damaged should I ask for a new one?

So you don't mind your saved games being lost if a drive failure occurs?

Since you are the one that dropped it your warranty probably doesn't cover that and the manufacturer or vendor shouldn't have a hard time finding marks or other indicators for the defect being your fault. You can try, but I wouldn't hope on getting it replaced by warranty.

do you think there is a possibility that the hard drive could survive, and be able for use, long term?

@robotxbot Please don't take the HDD apart outside of a cleanroom or I can guarantee you that it won't work.

Well, you either need to RMA / exchange the HDD, or put into a system and see if it works.

I'd play it safe, and RMA / exchange.

You asking if the HDD will it survive in the long term is like...

I just got in a car accident with someone in my car. Ambulance is taking them to the hospital now...will they die, or show any permeant injuries 5 years later?

We can't answer that.

(By the way, I don't have a dark mind wishing people die, just analogy the popped up in my mind)

The problem is that I don't know how to tell if it works or not

Plug it into another system, put it into an external HDD enclosure, or test it out when you get your CPU.

Or just RMA / Exchange it now.

We cannot answer that either. None of us work / represent Seagate lol.

You'll need to either reach out to the store / place you bought the HDD from, or contact customer service / RMA department at Seagate to get the final answer.

I can say "yeah, sure of course" ... but Seagate can be like ... "NO. You dropped it, we won't cover it."
