PC specs:
Ryzen 7 3800x with stock cooler

RTX 2080 super aorus from gigabyte   (I used to have an rtx 2060 from asus but I upgraded)

PowerSpec 750 watt 80+ gold psu

Asus TUF x570 plus wifi mobo

4 8 gigabyte sticks of g.skill ripjaws 3200mhz ram(32gb of ram in total)

Thermaltake v200 tg rgb case

inland premium 1tb ssd(nvme, m.2)

2tb seagate barracuda hdd

NOTE: The case glass is broken, I replaced it with plastic wrap though.

Hey guys, I need help I've been dealing with this for months please

My PC is pretty beefy. However, I used to be getting over a thousand frames per second easily on minecraft, but now I get around 500... Still a lot, but it's seriously underperforming. I also get frame spikes When I set the fps limit to unlimited, making gameplay seem like it's at 5 fps for a couple seconds. My friend with an intel core i7 something and an rtx 2060 gets higher frames for some reason.... I asked him for his settings and yes we do have the same settings as much as I can check. However, my mom did smash my pc up a bit(I don't want to get into why) so the glass broke so I replaced it with plastic wrap. I don't see any other visual damage on the PC other than scuff marks here and there. Temperatures are not as low as I would like(around 80 C) but it's nowhere near the level where temps would be throttling the PC. PLEASE help! Feel free to ask for any info you need

Things I've tried

Resetting windows(several times)

Clearing CMOS(I enabled DOCP after)

Thank you!

Won't ask the circumstances but I have to know, did the performance dip start before or after this happened?

Unckecked small physical damages can lead to performance problems down the line. It's possible some non-visible damage was incurred. Try a few things, like reseating the ram and CPU, and GPU, to make sure physical connections are still good.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I unfortunately can't remember, I did reseat everything though 2 months ago(performance was bad then)

I took CPU and GPU off then put them back in

I would also recommend reinserting the ram and storage, and then see if a BIOS update helps. (Yeah it's weird but sometimes a BIOS update can help with physical damage)

have reinserted the RAM but not the storage. I'll try the BIOS update later today. Do they usually help with this sort of thing?

It's not common but it can help

Over time (especially running Windows) performance will degrade. I know you stated that you've reset Windows, but have you tried completely formatting your hard drive and starting from scratch? As far as I know, most components like CPU's, GPU's and RAM don't 'slow down' over time, if they're going bad they will just intermittently or permanently fail to work.

No, I just used the windows reset feature 😕 Should I format? If so, how do I do it?

Someone suggested I update to windows version 20h2, which I don't feel will solve the problem but I can try?? Feel like it might break my pc tbh

It's good to know my components haven't degraded permanently though

I noticed that you're using a HDD, since they are mechanical they CAN degrade over time. Have you ran Win defragmenter on it recently? I'd highly recommend getting a SSD at least for the boot drive...it makes your PC feel considerable snappier.

Power supplies (in my experience) do eventually go bad, but usually cause BSOD's when they're going out. It doesn't sound like you're experiencing that though.
