Would anyone know why my new credit card has a bigger chip?

I just got a replacement, but it seems to have a lack of an actual chip, or the new systems are much more complicated. Attached is a picture of it, quite some bigger than normal and it's much lower than a typical chip is set into the surface of the material

While the chip can technical be any size the contact pads would need to be in exactly the same place for that to be used a terminal.
