I want to upgrade my memory.

Currently I am using 2 x 8 gb 2400 mghz Corsair Vengeance RAM

I'm thinking of upgrading to 2 x 16 3600 mghz Corsair Vengeance RAM which should increase speed by roughly 50% and double my capacity.

I'm even considering buy 4 sticks.

I see two listings, one much cheaper then the other and wonder is one better then the other or is the color the only difference.

both have same timings, speed, and latency. 64gbs seems overkill if youre just gaming and video editing but thats up to you. 32gbs is usually enough.

Probably true, but right now 9 out of my 16 gigs is being used just with the system idle.

32 gbs should do you fine unless you do daily video editing or cad work or simulations. Just trying to save you a buck and help the chip shortage

Explain. 50% more frequency should increase the speed. It may not be exactly 50% because things may take slightly more cycles, but more cycles per second should overall increase the speed significantly.

Real world testing has shown that the upgrade form my 5820k to the 5600X has a 25% increase in performance alone.

from 2400 to 3600 is not double the frequency and it will only make a difference if you're limited by the ram speed in what you are doing ...

 

also 4 stick are usually more difficult to run than 2 sticks for the memory controller

2400 * 1.50 = 3600 - What I said

yeah damn I'm tired ...

 

but anyway that increase in frequency doesn't translate to the same  increase in performance you have to take timings into account to calculate the first word latency

We are talking ram, not cpu's. Google ram speed scaling, you will see that difference is extremely minimal. We are talking single digit % range in many apps. Diminishing returns kicks in hard.

I think it will have a bigger impact on load times.

Also, things like Microsoft Flight Simulator which is CPU bound would probably be impacted more by RAM.

Also, probably more noticeable when caching when editing video.

Load times? You are bound by disk speed there, not ram speed. Minimal gains at best. 

 

Video editing, it still isn't a linear scale. 

 

All of this has been tested many times by many reputable review sites. Just Google it if you don't believe me.
