im planning to do gaming with light editing,i also dont know if its worth it to upgrade to ryzen 5900x because some game i play is not optimized for such many core

it's dual. But GN found a 2-3% better perf with 4sticks than 2sticks.

IMO - 2 sticks. For 2 reasons - easier to get higher frequencies and leaves free slots for future upgrade. Pursuing 2% performance benefit here does not make sense, especially since you might get lower frequency which will more than negate it...

16GB of RAM is a bit low though, for new system I'd honestly go with 32 (2*16).

Eh. It's a eol platform (bother ddr4 and am4). I would do it for the same cost, it's not like you have many CPU upgrade options.

2% - 3% improvement on its own is not worth much.

 

More memory is always better than more modules.

 

Identical speed and timing 2X16GB and 4x8GB generally have same performance.

 

I'd suggest 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL16.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I haven't tried with 3d but.. 

 

If you can get your IF into the 2000 or 2100 range and run your mems to match then you could easily make up the difference of 2 sticks vs 4 and there are serious gains to be had.

 

He said he couldn't get passed 1900, you might be able to. I blew right by it. I am running my 3200 CL14 sticks at 4200 CL16 1:1.. its psychotic..

16GB nowadays is generally low. It is minimally usable amount at this point. Not really a good choice for new system.

Many games come close to using as much, browsers require a bunch of memory etc. Running out of RAM is bad, it causes severe performance issues. Not to mention that having some ram for caching is great too.

4x8GB is a good idea to get dual-rank out of box, but beware when buying 2x8GB kits twice if they arent working as advertized in 4x8 mixed with another pair even if from same company and model their reply mey be "did we sell this as a 4 by 8 kit? No? Well fuck you that is your problem figure it out!" 😛

 

Also some boards such as the ones from ASRock refuse to run at max speed with 4 so 2x16GB runs much better on those... (some 16GB sticks are single rank)
