Card prices

I've had my eye on a Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT for a while now. The MSRP was... $650? But Newegg lists the price as $999.

 

Same with most of the other 6800XT cards that I can see a price for.

 

So, how much of this is just 'Retailer Scalping', and how much is due to bull**** tariffs? I feel like I'm really lucky that I got a good PSU before the prices got jacked up, but... I'm still not sure I want to spend $1000 on a GPU.

Yes.

Everything is hosed up. From the manufacturers forced to raise their prices because of shortages, to retailers having to raise prices because their wholesale prices went up, to scalpers and so forth.

There's two things you have to realize here:

 

1) Not everything on Newegg is sold through Newegg directly; might want to check who the seller is before bashing Newegg.

2) MSRP is Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. It's a guideline, not a guarantee. Retailers are more than welcome to set their own pricing.

 

The tariffs definitely add to it.
