Looking for the best Lga 1200 ATX motherboard for Intel 10600k

Hello I'm looking for the best price to performance motherboard for the 10th gen 10600k. I may down the line decide to overclock but for now overclocking potential isn't the most important thing to me. ATX boards/AC Wifi

The answer is: the cheapest board that supports the 10600K. Modern mobo's don't affect performance at stock speeds. If you need OC capability (Memory or CPU), then you'll need a Z-series board.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Fedora 38 x86_64

Secondary: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Fedora 38 x86_64

Server: AMD Athlon PRO 3125GE, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 ECC, TrueNAS Core 13.0-U5.1

Home Laptop: Intel Core i5-L16G7, 8 GB 4267 MHz LPDDR4x, Windows 11 Home 22H2 x86_64

Work Laptop: Intel Core i7-10510U, NVIDIA Quadro P520, 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 x86_64

Z-series board, and one that doesn't have a junkus VRM system.

The AsRock Z490 Pro4 *CANNOT* even handle a i5-10600K at stock; the VRM's thermal throttle.

Are you claiming that the Z490 Pro4 can't handle a sustained 125 W? Links.

i9-10900K, i7-10700K, and i5-10600K are all rated as "125W."

I'm talking about stock settings, power limited to stay within Intel spec.

The AsRock Z490 Phantom Gaming 4 is EVEN worse.

Off topic-ish, IMO, Gigabyte nailed it with Z390 with their Aorus line-up and kept that train going with Z490.

I personally went with a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master, instead of an ASUS Maximus XI Hero, because:

  • Maximus XI Hero $50+ more
  • 6(x2) + 2 VRM vs 4(x2) + 2
  • VRM heatsinks are actually...fin array heatsinks, and not just...a square block of metal....

Given my last 4 of 5 motherboards were ASUS (ROG or Deluxe tier) boards, switching to Gigabyte was a little bit of a rolling the dice?

I'd say it's a good choice. Decent VRMs, lots of features, etc.

The only thing that would set me off is the amount of USB ports. Cause I doubt the typical person would need that much ports.

Being a true 12-phase VRM for the CPU, and decent VRM cooling...yes, I would say it is a good choice.
