I'm looking for some advice on an upgrade path with my PC. I use it for video editing (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition), triple A gaming, and my studies (networking).

My current specs are:

Ryzen 5 2600

16gb Corsair Vengance 3000Mhz

MSI Tomahawk B450

Zotac GTX 1070

EVGA 500W PSU

Many thanks for your help!

It's chugging in After Effects. I'm also planning to get new 4k monitors soon.

Ok, for starters, look at your mobo and see what CPU upgrades it;'ll support. This will give you an idea if the whole system must be changed, or just the CPU.

Will do, cheers bud

In all seriousness, programs like you are working with, have highly different system requirements based on what you are doing with it.

For example, editing a 720p video can easily be done in your current system, so no need for upgrades, but editing 4K 2 hour long renders? Whole different story.

So, to help a little bit more (because you are going to be spending some serious cash here) what exactly are you doing with your system, or what do you want to do with your system?

I edit 4k footage to be rendered into h264, so pretty demanding, I also have AE open with PP and Audition. I will be able to expense some of this to a client.

So as a profession then, yeah, you're gonna need that RAM and CPU upgrade. I have a co-worker that went from a 2GB video card to an 8GB one for 4k rendering and it cut his rendering time from days, to hours, but it looks like your video card is already 8GB (and given the GPU insanity going on right now, you might as well stick with the existing card) so you ought to be good to go there.

Just ensure you've got the latest BIOS on your mobo before you swap CPUs.
