Help: Building a new PC

Budget (including currency): 1500-2000 CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Some random gaming, heavy VM setup

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Here is my existing cart from newegg.ca but not sure if its accurate or not:

I doubt there is a difference in performance between the 3700x and 3800x worth 60 CAD. Maybe there is, someone else can disagree here if they think so.

What do you mean integrated? Only the APU line of of chips from AMD have graphics processing capabilities. If you want graphic output your gonna need some kind of GPU even if its really old like a 900 or 700 series card.

if you want to use integrated graphics you should pay the extra 10 bucks for a 9900k over the 3800x

Any budget graphic card you can suggest which can output at 144hz? Again, I have a PS4 for gaming so prime focus on this PC is not gaming. That's why don't want to spend 1000 dollars on a graphic card.

The big thing with the intel motherboards, is to get something in stock with wifi your gonna be paying a premium. If you need wifi, I suggest just getting a card for it.

Just get the cheapest used GPU you can find. If your not gonna be doing much gaming, the the refresh rate of the monitor shouldn't matter for non gaming purposes.

Overall is it better to go for AMD based setup or Intel based setup these days? It's been ages since I built my last PC so lost touch of latest stuff.

displayport on the intel motherboard supports 4k 60, so it would support 1440p high refresh rate should be fine

amd is generally a bit less stable than intel. (intel better be stable after 14nm+++++++++) and intel tends to do better in single threaded loads and amd is a bit better in multithreaded loads.

Makes sense. ! more question: is single Cooler master CPU cooler should be enough or there is a need to include additional fans with a radiator (front or top) in the build?

I was planning to go for this GPU initially: GTX 1030 https://www.newegg.ca/gigabyte-geforce-gt-1030-gv-n1030oc-2gi/p/N82E16814932004?Item=N82E16814932004

2 case fans should be fine. I have this cpu and had that exact cooler in an h510 with the included 2 case fans, it would heat up to 99c after 20 mins of sustained load, but I haven't really seen it throttle. In real world use case it doesn't throttle because I'm not hammering it at 100%, so unless you do that, the included case fans should be fine.

1 more thing. I notice that Motherboard: MSI Z390-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard says that when 1 M.2 is used, SATA port gets disabled. Are all the SATA ports disabled or only 1?

Also, does this motherboard supports SSD boot? In case I don't plan to buy HDD

yes, I am typing this to you on my motherboard which is booted for my m.2 drive. Even if you did end up buying an hdd, I reccomend storing an os on an ssd because it’s much faster to boot. You can configure boot priority in the bios.

is 750W power supply an overkill right now or future safe in case I add a RTX 30 series graphic card? @curiousmind34

its not overkill; if there is more than a 20% chance of you getting a 30 series graphics card I would pay the extra 25 CAD.

That is pretty horrible. Why are you looking at a 9900K and Z390 ? The i7 10700K is cheaper. Also that board is not ideal for a 9900K and I doubt the cooler is good enough either. The 9900K runs hot.

Do you need wifi 6 ?

The HP EX950 1TB is cheaper.

Also Z590 is out and the 11th gen is due this month. That might have an effect on current prices.

Hmm, here are my thoughts:

1) I prefer to get a 11th gen intel but that is a month away and will increase cost of build

2) I can go AMD way with latest 3rd gen chips, but those does not have integrated graphics. that means I have to get a graphics card which are rare in market to get hold off

3) I prefer wifi6 because I already have Asus Ax86U wifi6 router with 1 Gig Up/Down connection and it's better to have a build which already have Wifi6 card

The 11th gen is out this month, so maybe 4 weeks to wait max. You should at least see what prices/reviews are like. If you want something now then the i7 10700K is cheaper than the 9900K. It doesn't make sense to buy a cpu that will be 2 versions old in a few weeks.

The Ryzen cpu's don't have onboard graphics but you could put the cheapest gpu in there for the short term. You won't be doing any gaming with onboard graphics anyway.

If you need wifi 6 then fair enough.

Here is a 10700K build if you don't want to wait.

No RGB but you can swap out the Ram if you want the Corsair etc.

The Noctua D15S is a better cooler than the CM 212. The Intel cpu's can run hot so you want a good cooling solution.

The MSI board has wifi 6 onboard.
