What's My Options for a 3:2 Monitor... if Standalone Options Happen to Exist, Anyway?

PlayStation 2

This is a real shot in the fucking dark, but I digress. Are there any 3:2 aspect ratio monitors out there that aren't bespoke tiny ass displays meant for car seats or intended for, say, a laptop or something? It's always something that's perplexed me - and it's something that I'd know nothing about trying to search for, but it's more or less the ideal aspect ratio for my needs, so long as a standalone monitor in that ratio actually exists.

I'm not really trying to ballpark a budget, size or resolution (well, so long as it's rationally sized like a normal monitor), I'm mainly just window shopping here... although at the right price, I wouldn't mind springing for one.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Don’t know off hand, but in PC partPicker screen aspect ratio is one of the filters in the monitor section.  You could just plug in your requirements and see what pops up.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

3:2 is actually not even one of the options PC PartPicker has for aspect ratio.

It's still possible to buy some 16:10 monitors. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QGK2LDR I think that's as close as you're going to get, OP.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I'm more or less at that 16:10 point - Dell 3008WFP represent. My main reason for making this thread was to see if I could go farther than 16:10 without going to 4:3.

I know this thread is old, but if you can buy Huawei hardware where you are: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/monitors/mateview/

I haven’t seen a 3:2 monitor in a long time myself.  A loooonng time.  Like before TV changed to digital. Old ntsc was 3:2 but even movie theatres had move on long past so they had to do this thing called pan and scan to make movies seem like they fit.  Digital tv changed the format to make it wider and shorter.  Closest you might be able to find is something designed for architects.  Might actually be an old used crt these days unless you’re  looking for something small and industrial. One option might be a wider unit and just accept black bars on the sides.

I think so far Huawei MateView 3:2 monitor is the only available now in 3:2 aspect ratio.

Another is a weird aspect ratio and also the only one in the market now which probably good for certain people for productivity, the LG 16:18 monitor

That’s an odd descriptor.  It’s the same as 8:9

I only know of one. That's the Huawei mateview. Online everyone's been positive about it and product itself seems decent. Just I and others I know who have had Chinese devices is a vast hit or miss market. As I'm looking for a productivity monitor, I'd still think twice about a Chinese.

3:2 is an option on PcPartPicker, just maybe in your region if there are no 3:2 monitors available, thus option is not available. This might be the case if you live in the US as Huawei products are not allowed to be sold over there. Since it's not allowed to be sold, what's the point of displaying an option that will be empty when filtered.

A few things here:

1. You're replying to a post from almost a year and a half ago, before the Huawei MateView existed anywhere. 3:2 was not an option then.

2. It's not really correct to say that Huawei's products in general are banned in the US. Huawei is banned from doing business with US companies, which means it's impossible for them to sell Android smartphones in the US. You can read more about it here

3. There is now a 3:2 filter in PCpartpicker with the MateView as the one and only product it yields (and it even shows it available from one retailer in the US, albeit at an inflated price).

Aah my bad. Noticed last comment before me was a few hours old and didn't realize that there was a 7 months gap. TIL more about what is banned of Huawei in the US and what isn't, especially since I don't live in the US and only read headlines from time to time.

I don’t really understand what the intent is with that The idea I think is they do not want silicon in the US that has been bugged or given hardware back doors by the Chinese government.  I don’t see how that would help though, because there is still foxcon, etc..  in mainland China.  The only was to stop that one is to ban silicon IMPORTATION from China and that hasn’t been done.

The closest thing I'm aware of is this - LG DualUp Ergo Monitor. It's 16:18 aka 8:9, which is VERY close to your desired 6:9 (err 2:3) just being 2/9ths off.

Be aware that it might just be cheaper to get a high res 16:9 display that's BIG and to turn it on its side and basically letterbox it.

Outside of the US there is also this but it's $$$$.
