Hello,

I am upgrading my motherboard and CPU, will I have to re-install all the software I have on my computer just now?

What motherboard and CPU combo are you upgrading from and to? If you're switching platforms (or making a significant jump) it's a great idea to do a clean installation of Windows.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Hi, thanks for the reply, I currently have an i5 7400 processor and a Gigabyte GA-250M- D2V. I am upgrading to an i7 9700 processor and a Gigabyte B365M DS3H motherboard.

Will a clean installation mean I will lose programs such as my Adobe package and Studio One (DAW) and my plugins?? This is my first time carrying out an upgrade and the advice I have seen so far is a little vague.

If you're running Windows 10 you should be fine. I have done complete platform swaps with Windows installations and the worst thing that happened was Windows getting deactivated.

Thanks for the reply. I have the license linked to my microsoft account so I can reactivate it. I'm concerned about losing my software and VST plugins. Will doing a fresh install of windows wipe all of that?
