Install Windows off USB in BIOS (What path on USB drive ?)

Thomas - FusionGFX

Hi there!

I just got a new notebook with no OS installed on it. Usually, when trying to install Windows off a USB-drive i simply select the USB device as a boot option and the windows installation starts.
On this Asus Notebook tho, I can only "Add New Boot Option" and I have to select a certain file on the drive to create thatt boot option.

What is the correct file / folder destination to start the windows installation?

All the best and thanks in advance!

If the USB is not listed, it usually means the device can't boot from USB sticks.

But you could try the steps from here: https://superuser.com/a/512108

The device is listed, but i have to select a certain file off the drive to create a new boot option

I created a new boot option, saved and exited the BIOS and when rebooting the boot option is gone..?

I'm not sure if that option can really be used like this. If there's a \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI file on the USB, you could try adding it.

Thanks - that's the file i was looking for.
Unfortunately when restarting and saving (F10) the just before added boot option was gone.

How i fixed it in the end:
I opened up my notebook, took the SSD and mounted it into my desktop PC - in windows drive manager i allocated a letter to the drive - back to the notebook it went and now i was able to boot from my USB drive.
