I was reading an article about a rumor of the performance of some Alder Lake CPUs.

And the article said this line up of CPUs is expected 4th quarter this year or Q1 next year. Is that even possible? They are gonna release 11th gen in a month or less , is it possible they release new CPUs in 3Qs only ?

Yeah, definitely possible, there's nothing stopping Intel from releasing any number of CPU's at any time. For example Intel, just a few weeks ago launched a new line up of Jasper Lake cpu's on 10nm (pentiums and celerons). 11th gen doesn't really seem that great and I'd imagine 12th gen is made on their 10nm node and they're rushing a bit to get it out so they can potentially get ahead of AMD.

Or the article got it wrong and what is "expected" is the announcement, and release will happen a year from now...

But why release 11th gen then ..?

My opinion is that they want to cash out on shortages , they know what ever they put on shelves will sell , so this is just a quick cash grab and 12th gen is the true competitor to amd

Not possible , review kits are already sent out to many reviewers , with the new Z590 boards , 11th gen is releasing mid to late March.

Umm it would be a year between 11 and 12, just like it's been a year between 10 and 11, and just a bit more than a year between 9 and 10?

Their releases have been mostly yearly with a shift here and there for a long time, even if there wasn't much new to bring.

Because 12th gen is probably not ready yet, and they can't just let AMD hold the lead for too long. Also 12th gen will probably be on a new platform with a new socket, potentially DDR5 (but that's just a rumor) and they can't just ditch LGA1200 and leave it with 1 single generations of cpu's.
