Is there a way to download Windows 98 from a USB? I've got the files, just not a blank CD...

If you have the ISO of the installation disk... why not?

Use a USB Boot tool like RUFUS to "burn" the iso image on the usb key and select is at boot time

I tried to use RUFUS, but it keeps giving me this error message:

You should be able to use a tool like dd.

 

But why not just boot from cd? most of the systems that can run 98 have a cd drive.

i actually found a way, i just used rufus to get FreeDOS and entered setup from there, it works, but it installs to the usb instead of the hdd on the pc, any way to fix this?

I actually managed to get through the first part of installing Windows 98, but whenever i reboot the system to go to the second part, it says these exact words: 

 

Insufficient memory to initialize Windows.

 

Quit one or more memory-resident programs or remove unnecessary utilities from your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, and restart your computer.

How much RAM does the system have? Also, what CPU?

It has 1gb and a first gen intel atom, it should work fine

Do you have any way to reduce that to 512MB of RAM? Or use a system from the Windows 98 era?
