If you over locked at all it might be unstable? Or ya I would do fresh instal I have had that happen to me before and it usually fixes it.

No, I never overclocked if that's what you are asking. The maximum I have ever done is turbo on my 3570K which is off now.

Would a fresh install help? I have tried a different hdd with a separate install of windows on it and it didn't help. Does this prove that a fresh install wouldn't help? Or could it still somehow help?

Thanks for the reply

I would think that a different windows installation would have the same effect.

Could it be the motherboard?

@Volbet do you have any ideas

Hmm, after a quick readthrough, this is what I would suggest.

  • Try reinstalling Windows. Taking a copy of Windows that was on a another computer rarely works, and can cause some strange problems.
  • Try the GPU in a different system, Since you have tried a different GPU, the problem might be with the your motherboard and/or PCIe slot. If you have the option, try the GPU in a different PCIe slot aswell. You can also try cleaning the PCIe slot, though I doubt this would be the problem
  • You can also try uninstalling the AMD drivers (and probably also the NVidia drivers) with Driver Sweeper. The driver uninstaller from AMD isn't always reliable.

I'm sorry if I have missed something, but please correct me if you have already tried these things.

I'm sorry that I haven't seen this topic before, but thanks @Chaosbadger for bringing it to my attention. (@tornados2111, just so you will see it aswell.)

It might help but it also might not. But it would make sence if there is a driver problem or a file corrupt somewhere. I don't think that using a HDD from another computer would work very well at all but that's just from personal expirience, but if you use a fresh instal best case it works and the problem is fixed worse case it doesn't solve the problem than you have to start troubleshooting hardware.

Thanks sooo much guys, seriously your comments are saving me a fortune. When I get the change I will try my graphics card in my other slot (I think I have one) and I'll try reinstalling windows. I see that my shallow understanding isn't necessarily correct! Whenever I get the chance I'll try my gpu in another system too. Thanks again guys, I'll let you know how it goes

Guys, rather than reinstalling windows again (which is kinda a pain in the ass) could I dual boot linux onto my hdd and see if I get the problem there? To be honest, I'm so desperate that I'd be willing to learn to use linux for this to easily go away, plus all the games I play are on linux. I find dual booting might be easier because reinstalling windows means that if I change my mind I can't go back, correct? Just a thought, what do you guys think

That is of course an option. Try installing Mint or Ubuntu and see if you like it, it has become much easier to use the last couple of years.

While it is true that you can't go back to your old Windows installation if you reinstall ontop of it, but you really don't have a use for a Windows installation that doesn't work.

And sorry that I haven't seen this before now. For some reason it didn't come up in my notifications.

No problem dude. Really I must be asking stupid questions but I'm trying to get confirmation from someone who knows what they are talking about :D

I'll try that, it seems like a good idea, and learning linux sounds fun anyway to me

The only stupid question is a question you don't ask.

Unless it is really stupid, in which case....
