Okay, so that's ruled out.聽 PSU update next.

Fun! yeah I really hope it's the PSU. Not looking forward to installing the new one in tomorrow. If it's not the PSU then it has to be the GPU. If not then maybe the motherboard? At this point I'm close to building a new PC.

Yes, it's not much fun at all.聽 What are your complete specs, or are they above?

I ask because if you have integrated graphics, you can run on that and that'll take the GPU out of the equation.

If you run fine without the GPU... you now know that either the GPU is faulty or the PSU can't handle the GPU added load for the system.

That's an idea. My mobo is Gigabute x470 Auros gaming wifi 5. Have had this setup over a year with no issue. So something has faulted. I'll try the integrated graphics if the PSU doesn't work. If that still causes an issue then it has to be the mobo at which point I've basically replaced the entire PC haha

Just looked, you have the Ryzen 2700x so no integrated graphics.

Let us know how the PSU goes at least.聽 聽While you wait, I'd look at warranties of your GPU and motherboard just in case.聽聽

I'd hate to have you redo so many parts if an RMA would handle things..

Oh yeah of course, I'm use to Intel CPUs. Yeah soon as I isolate the problem I will be looking into the warranty. Thanks.

Now I'm also trying to figure out why Chrome is slow and freezes every now and then. God I hate PCs sometimes.聽聽聽

Have just installed my new PSU. It's 850W MSI A850GF. Fingers crossed this was the issue.

Something to note, I was completely wrong about the purchase date of my PSU. I purchased it all the way back in 2011 so it's way out of warranty and actually the little guy did me good for a while in all fairness.

So no dice. Just reset itself again. I don't know anymore, frustration doesn't even begin to describe it anymore. At this point all that's left is the graphics card, ram and motherboard.聽

I've plugged it into a different socket, away from the extension. It occured to me that prior to all this happening there was a weird thing where all the electronics plugged in cut out momentarily. Subsequently I've been having issues with the PC. I've left it on since 1AM and currently it's 1PM and the PC hasn't rebooted once.

Do you have issues with electricity in general in your house?聽 or can you definitively say it's just that socket?

Can you borrow or otherwise get your hands on another GPU?聽 Even an old one?

Hi everyone

For the last few weeks I've had an issue where my PC suddenly restarts. I've tried looking for clues in event viewer but all I can find are the following:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Hello buddy,

I came to the rescue to help you on this awful experience. I would like you to follow my lead and please don't buy any new parts unless you know for sure it is the issue. You'll just be dumping money for no reason.

  • I would like you to remove 1 ram stick and run your PC on just 1 ram stick in the correct primary slot.
  • I need you to remove the GPU and run your on-board graphics card.

These are the first two steps I would like you to take and tell me how it goes. There are two culprits in my opinion on this matter. I suspect first it is your RAM, not your PSU. And second, I suspect some sort of software issue with your GPU.

But before I try to break down the matter on what the problem is, I need you to list all of:

  • PC components
  • Date of incident
  • How long have you had this issue
  • Were聽you able to run your PC before without any issue before the problem started
  • What new changes you made before the problem started happening
  • Is the PC brand new and just fairly newly built
  • Did you upgrade, update, change BIOS, new drivers, etc... and the problem started
  • New download such as games, software, and problem started
  • Did you reinstall fresh Windows and problem started

I would like you to also go into BIOS and turn off X.M.P if you have that option on by default.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a similar issue once with my PC where I had random reboots and sometimes the PC got even stuck in a bootloop. When I looked at the event manager - nothing. The motherboard did not show a warning on the next boot that the PC had been shut down unexpectedly because of voltage drop. It turned out to be the power button, these reboots stopped when I unplugged it.

I don't know whether this is still relevant for you, but if you're still desperate, you could give it a try. The annoying thing would be that you'd have to jumpstart your PC with a screwdriver (short 2 GPIO pins on the motherboard), which would mean to remove the side panel.
