Yes

No, if it had it would had notified you of a quarantined file or folder.

Yes and no. Skype is a default program and sometimes the OS will make sure its intalled. Just remove it when you have all the main updates completed if you dont want it.

Hello! I was reintalling (clean install) windows for a family member and when I was finishing up with the installation and windows updates went to windows defender to update it and while it was checking for updates it said "the threat service has stopped" and had to restart it, also meanwhile skype reinstalled itself for some reason.

Is the windows defender thing normal? Did the PC somehow got a virus? It never happened to me in a windows reinstall (also the Skype thing was weird).

Thanks for the answers!

It happens on my old notebook from time to time. It's a bit of a timing thing.

If Windows defender simply receives new virus definitions, then the service isn't restarted. But if the service's executable itself is updated then its completely normal for it to be restarted afterwards. Depending on how long that takes, Windows may complain about its virus protection not running only for the warning to disappear a second later because the service is already in the process of restarting itself.

Awesome, it never happened to me having the threat service stopped in all the times I reinstalled windows 10, so I was worried.

That's what I figured, I never even touched Edge to install something so it was weird if it was a virus

I know, I always uninstall al the things that I can (except maybe the calculator and some other thing), but I don't remember ever windows going "you know what? here's Skype again just for fun", it always remains uninstalled (in this PC it never reinstalled).

I had to restart it manually, I clicked the check updates button and instantly the service stopped and it didn't restarted untill I clicked on the button

It's possible your installation got tagged for the quick meeting preview. Microsoft has been randomly rolling that out lately and if so you got skype re-installed for it. That's my best guess. /shrug

I didn't know about the quick meeting thing, maybe that's why it got a special notification that highled skype being installed. Maybe I should have installed some linux distro like Ubuntu or Pop, it would have been easier I think.

Thanks for the answers! I guess the installation is as ok as can be.
