Laptop mic not working

What are some troubleshooting steps to use in order to get the mic on a laptop to work? Not my laptop so I don't know the exact circumstances but I tryed a few basic thing like an online mic test and I checked default input and there was only one so there wasn't a whole lot I could do. I know there's other things to do but that was what came to mind.

What laptop do you have?

Not shure about the exact model. It's an hp with 8th gen intel if that helps.

You might want to make sure it's not disabled

You would want to right click on the sound icon in the taskbar and click on the sounds settings
