Symptom

At random times, when I go to start my PC I get no signal going to my montiors.

This happens before POST.
It comes and goes, sometimes it'll happen every day, then it won't happen for a week, then it'll happen frequently again.

There are also times (far less frequent) where it will lose signal, and fans will go to max while using the computer.
It can happen when the computer is not under stress, so I know  it's not a heating issue. I've monitored this a bit.

Possible Causes

There have been times when I have placed my headset on the PC case, and it has triggered the display issue to happen, and the fans to spin to max.

I am guessing this is either a GPU or PSU issue.

I am thinking the PSU could be aging and this could be the issue.

Workaround

  • powering off at the wall and restarting sometimes fixes it (Not as often as it used to)
  • powering off at the wall, unplugging one monitor (either one), restarting. Then plugging in the 2nd monitor fixes it 100% of the time.

What I've tried

Just the above. I have been putting off reseating everything unless i know it'll make a difference. Hard to know if it's fixed for a week or so.

Would appreciate any tips on this. I've looked around and can't find anything similar.

Yes, recently i fixed something like this with a PSU refresh, and it solve all the problems.

The pc reset itself, random lockups in games, sata port disconnecting etc.

What's the PSU?

Sorry I haven't had time to get back to this, it's been a busy couple of months.
So turns out the PSU is different, its an Antec True Power 750w Blue.
I'd forgotten I'd switched it out since the original build, so the above was incorrect.
Looking back through my records, the antec true power was purchased back in 2010... so it's had a fairly good run.

I have just re-seated the card and I've got it using differenet pci-e power connectors. (My PSU has 2 sets).
I'll see how it goes, if it still has issues I'll go down the new PSU route.
