Can I replace a DDR3 graphics card with a GDDR5 card?

They've got the same slot size and all.

 

One interesting thing I will note is that the graphics card has a max power requirement of 47 W while the port is labelled as providing 25 W. Would that be acceptable?

You can put any PCIe graphics card in a PCIe slot. The maximum wattage you can pull through the PCIe slot is 75W. Anything more will need to be powered directly from the power supply using 6 pin or 8 pin connectors.

 

VRAM is only on the graphics cards so unless I'm missing something or you left some context out, you should be fine.

This would be a server you are putting this into then?

The system, if it's a server, will not post, or rather it will, but it will throw an error about too much wattage from the GFX card, and the system will halt.

So anything over 25 watts will need to be provided by an external 6/8 pin connector.

Any VRAM is ok, exceeding the power limit is not.
