VGA to Display port adapter not working

I have ordered a VGA to Display port adapter because I bought a new monitor. However, when I plug in the display port adapter into the monitor there is no signal and it’s just a black screen. The VGA port is on my computer, and the Display port is on my monitor. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

What kind of adapter did you get?
