I've never bothered with backups until recently as Ive never experienced any really bad storage disk failures..  but lately I do backups and use windows backup tool to put them on an external hdd..

I looked at pre-made external drives for a while but it seemed better to choose my own drive and get an enclosure for it.  It cost a little more than getting a WD passport but, this way I know the drive should be solid.  The enclosure is nice because it has a few good things on there. namely, it has an on/off button, USB 3.0 and its own A.C. power supply to provide enough power to spin up the drive. :)

Yes, backing up to a different drive is definitely recommended. There are many very well reviewed back software out there. I personally use Acronis True Image Home and it hasn't dissapointed. The default Windows backup tool is a good free alternative, along with Paragon's and Macrium's free offerings.

You should also consider subscribing to an internet backup solution like Crashplan and Backblaze. I use Crashplan. It works very well.

could i use a 250gb ssd for everything then backup onto a 1tb and also use the tb for videos/photos and stuff like that thats gona take lots of space but dont need fast loads?

I know many are gona call me stupid but how do i backup stuff and do i need another drive?

No question is stupid grasshopper.....see what I did...pulled some Master Po wisdom....i personally use my 2TB HDD as my backup.  If you have a drive laying around, throw it in your rig, format, and start saving your backup to that....go to Control Panel...system and security.  You will see a back up function listed.  Choose where to save and start the process.

I'd say its not recommended but, RE-FRICKEN REQUIRED!

OK I've calmed down a bit, you can also use a CD/DVD drive if you are desperate and sure a floppy as well assuming you can get one on your system or even a thumb drive if you promise to not leave it in your pocket and then wash the pants where the thumb drive falls out and then run the washer N times before you remember. Then make an additional copy on an other thumb drive.

Assuming its valuable data and not just a game program which you can re-download.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.
