Cleaning used thermal paste

Hi so I was wondering can I use Ethanol to clean used thermal paste?

Just use an alcohol wipe.

Well I have that at home so I was wondering if I can use it instead of buying isopropyl alcohol

Ethanol is the intoxicating ingredient of most alcoholic beverages and close enough to isopropyl alcohol.

If its safe to drink in beverages it will not do any harm on the CPU just don't over do it.

Or can I just use a towel and a cotton bud?

 Towel and a cotton buds for the easy parts  and wet towel and a cotton buds with ethanol for the hard to remove parts

i just use a paper towel and plenty of elbow grease, does well enough of a job to not spend 20 bucks on isopropyl alcohol in the covid-shortages...
