Interface volume vs Windows volume

Currently I have my gain a about 60% and in windows I have the volume at 50. If I set the windows volume to high it has a bit too much background noise for my liking so I'm mainly controlling the volume though my interface.

I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing I'm new to xlr mics so help would be appreciated

Windows volume all the way up, control the volume entirely from the interface, always. And how does turning the windows volume up increase background noise ?? Could you give an example? If the end result volume is the same there should be no difference in background noise.
