Hey all.  First, I'm going to simply say my question.  Then I'll explain all the specifics of why I want to do this.

How do I grant an app access to all files on Android 11?

Essentially, I've been using Signal for SMS for a while now.  I want to separate my SMS and encrypted conversations now, so I'd like to export my messages to SMS.  It was suggested to me to download a version from GitHub that supported the feature.  The issue I'm having is that when the app asks for access to storage, for some reason it only gains access to media storage.  When I click on the backup option, it says "Error, unable to write to storage."  This led me to assume I had accidentally clicked no to the storage option, but I found that instead it only had access to my media.  Since I'm assuming it's trying to make a folder and write a text document (I'm backing up SMS as plaintext), I'm guessing what it needs is to have access to all files on my phone.  That's why I'm trying to figure out how to give it that access.

I've tried to go into the settings and change it, but the only options are to deny or allow access to media.  When I click deny and then reopen the app and try again, it brings up the prompt to allow access but even after I click it it says unable to write to storage.  When I go back in and check, it still only has access to media.
