Drastical GPU temp decrease because of, overclocking??

DanWhite

Hello, so, I'll be quick. I have a mobile workstation(dell precision m6600 with the quadro 3000m, the temp of the GPU when not under stress always were around 61 degrees celsius since i have the machine, then, yesterday, I applied the msi afterburner default overclock to the card, and it maintained the temps it always had 61 to 70 degrees and then some minutes after that something really weird happened.

I was watching youtube, and then i watched the temps of the card and it was 50 degrees, and it didn't stopped going down, reaching 46, then i restarted the machine, and it obviously started with msi afterburner overclok off and the temps were back to normal (61 - 70 degrees) so i'm pretty sure that msi afterburner was causing that.

I already made a post about this, but it seems nobody believed me or something because it had no replies, but it did happened, if not i'd have no reason make this. So, i want to know, do you have any thoughts on this? i don't have any idea what could happen

(note: i'm not good at english, so if i wrote something wrong thats the reason)

Default overclock? Default is no overclock mate. As far as I know anyway. Maybe it altered some fan speed.

My thoughts: Afterburner somehow trigged the fan curve and made the fans start spinning. Otherwise I cannot see how the temps would fall. And I'm sure it's not a bug, since you could see the temps go down normally.

Well, the RPM could have increased

And what do you call the default clock increase that it lets you do to the "core clock" and "memory clock"?

But suddenly decreasing 17 degrees? and going down a down? never happened, ever, i've even used msi afterburner a lot of times before

the only thing that i've done its turning on the voltage monitoring in msi afterburner, but i don't see how that could cause this

For me the default have always been +0 to both core and mem so I don't know what you're talking about.

However, I'll take a guess.. and I'll guess that your "default" OC is the OC scanner?

So, for me it lets me increase the core clock for 135 more Mhz than the base speed, an the memory clock for for 400 more Mhz
