Will Haswell-E be compatible with DDR3 RAM as well as DDR4 or can you only use DDR4 RAM with a Haswell-E CPU?

Was Core 2 Duos compatible with DDR2 as well with DDR3? No.

It will only support what it is intended to be used with, DDR4.

I doubt it will be backwards compatible with DDR3 RAM and Intel announced it will be using DDR4.

Ram isn't backwards compatible (Like DDR 2 and 3) . So no.

Ever since the memory interface moved onto the processor this hasn't been possible. No chance it will use anything but DDR4.

Its not going to be compatible with DDR3.

 

And this is the reason why I will not be adopting Haswell-E on its launch (budget is not my concern).

 

DDR4 will likely be an epic fail for quite some time.
