Hey just a small question.

I've ordered the soundmagic e10 earphones after some advice and I was after some foam tips like the comply ones to replace the tips (as they will provide better isolation)

However...arn't comply tips basically just normal foam earplugs people use when sleeping cut into a earphone tip shape?

Could I just buy some foam earplugs, cut them to size, put a hole in the middle for the earphone and that's it?  (like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12Pairs-Soft-Foam-Ear-Plug-Tapered-Travel-Sleep-Noise-Prevention-Reducer-Earplug-/191009078215?pt=UK_BOI_ProtectiveGear_RL&hash=item2c79073bc7)

I can't see why the comflys are so expensive when they are the same material as simple foam earplugs as far as I'm aware?

Comply foam ones they're excellent.

http://www.complyfoam.com/e10/

Yes that is what I was mentioning.

Arn't those just simple foam earplugs (like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12Pairs-Soft-Foam-Ear-Plug-Tapered-Travel-Sleep-Noise-Prevention-Reducer-Earplug-/191009078215?pt=UK_BOI_ProtectiveGear_RL&hash=item2c79073bc7)

Cut into the shape of a earphone tip?

Just checked those comply foam dimentions, they are 1.24 CM wide for the medium ones, the link I posted is 1.3cm wide, so they would act exactly the same...

I'm not sure but it would be best to get the Comply Earphone Tips because the earplugs on Ebay look like they would split quite easily

The comply ones are also like 15x more expensive....when its just foam.

Don't know if they're the same materials, as I have never seen the foam plugs for sleeping, but comply ones are very very comfortable to wear in a prolonged time. They're very soft and have big pores so your skin can breathe.

One other thing, in the inner tubes of the comply, there are some sort of soft plastic, so you can plug them snugly into your IEM. Without that soft plastic, the foam won't stay there for very long.

My idea is to get those sleeping foam plugs, as they are not expensive. Then go to a store that display comply foam tips. They have a tiny bit of the foam material embedded into the packaging, so people can touch the material to know the feeling. Compare the 2 kind of foam, and decide which one you like best....

The inner ring of flexible plastic is kind of a necessity to keep the foam on the IEM. Also, good luck carving out a hole in a foam earplug.

I agree the comply tips are overpriced for what they are, but there's not really any competition for them.
