New pc tiered storage planning

Looking for a little guidance on storage spaces tiering and what drives to use. I want a tiered storage space mirrored in refs. I initially thought about using 2 sata ssds and 2 hdds 500gb and 4tb respectively. However I can get 2 nvme drives in 1tb for not much more. I've tried researching this but not coming up with too much useful info. The storage is going to be for games, databases and vms. I'll also want to be doing some android operating system compiling but I will probably just work with that on the nvme I'm going to use as a boot drive. Nothing over the network so I can use whatever speed I can get locally. I've heard of cache being to big or too small causing speed issues and just don't know what's what. System is going to have a 6 core and 32gb of ram if it matters
