What are they and do they have to do something with"ghosting"

Ghosting has nothing to do with these. Ghosting appears when your monitor's pixels can't change their color fast enough to keep up with the refresh rate.

 

G-Sync and Freesync make it, so your monitor's refresh rate always stays the same as your ingame FPS. This way "screen tearing" is reduced or eliminated when you get less FPS than your monitors refresh rate (Hz).

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
