Battlefield 4 Multiplayer's Map Inspiration?

freexavier

I found this post from a guy in Battlelog and I don't take credit for this. His name in Battlelog is LeftB4Dead

About nuclear submarines and underground base, this is the China last project:

"China is constructing a major underground nuclear submarine base near Sanya, Hainan. The Daily Telegraph on 1 May 2008 reported that tunnels were being built into hillsides which could be capable of hiding up to 20 nuclear submarines from spy satellites."

"Hainan Island (海南岛, Hǎinán Dǎo), the main island of the province. Hainan is located in the South China Sea, separated from Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula to the north by the shallow and narrow Qiongzhou Strait."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hainan [en.wikipedia.org]

Hainan Province is also the location of Paracel Islands:
"The province has an area of 33,920 square kilometers (13,100 sq mi) and is China's southernmost province. Although it comprises some two hundred islands scattered among three archipelagos off the southern coast, 32,900 square kilometres (12,700 sq mi) (97%) of its land mass is Hainan Island, from which the province takes its name. The PRC government claims territories of the province extend to the southern Spratly Islands, Paracel Islands, and other disputed marine territory."

The Final Stand:
Sanya was sometimes called Tianya Haijiao (天涯海角), meaning "the end of the sky and ocean" or "the end of the earth".

I think the inspiration was something like "Alright what scene can we stage a cool enough trailer for people to buy the maps?!".

(although credit where it is due they do look quite pretty)

"If you do not take your failures seriously you will continue to fail"

This isn't so surprising. In BF2 they used real life locations as base for maps. And ofc in BF1942 and BFV locations are also based on real places. I can't find those images anymore. No wonder... it was over 6 years ago.
