GPU cooler swap on a GTX1060 - Is it possible and does it even worth it

Hi everyone!

So, after my PSU exploded and took my GTX 770 in the process, I´v managed to grab a Galax GTX 1060 OC in order to keep working while I secure funds for a new CPU+mobo on the future.

Anyways, the 1060 is good and all, but I live in hellish temperatures and my case is mini-ITX, so I was wondering about replacing the 1060 cooler with my old GTX 770 ACX one, wich seems substancialy better (and rated for a higher TDP).

I didnt find many things online about it, so I tought about asking if anyone has done some thing like that around here. What ere the results and there is any thing I showd know before trying (die heigts seem to be standar as far as I could tell, but you never know)

Lots to dig into here.  IMHO I would dismantle both and see.  What you are likely to run into (and should research first) is the hole pattern spacing for securing the block to the GPU chip matches, if not that will cause the most issues (other than VRM's, chokes, etc getting in the way to stop it from fitting)

One thing that would help is lowering "power limit" in Afterburner to let's say 80-85% 

That should give still a good performance, but power consumption should lower more than power limit, probably 25+%.

The base holes seem to be the same nut I'll have to check it better later. My biggest fear was realy chip height, but that seems not to vary.

Didnt even think about the caps and chokes tho... the card seems to have a separate heatsink for the VRM also 😕

Performance does not drop over 10-15%

Great exchange rate usually. But it's your GPU..

I guess it's work a try then.

I'll have to disassemble the card when I get home, so Im gonna try reducing the power target for comparisson later too.

Did you try it out? I am in a similar situation. One of my fans of my 1660 has broke and there is a guy who sells a cooler from a gtx 770 in my city for a good price. I would like to swap the coolers.

No, too much tooling would be needed in my case.

Only tought about it because the 1060 cooler is so poor performing.
If you have access to tools for working with metals, its doable, but its probably easyer to just swapp the fans on yours.
