looked around for a good 20 minutes on google but couldn't find what I am looking for. I have recently gotton way into organizing photos in folders on my background/desktop but that area can start to get full and seemingly the only option is to jam it in a folder  to start over fresh, but if you want to go back to it its in a list format not like a "pinnable borde" like the background is where you can move them around and put things in certain spots with gaps and such, is there no way to store those sets as files as like "desktop set 1" "desktop set 2" without idk having to have a virtual machine for each one or something? not having them stored in a list but in a way you can have custom locations for every part without it being forced to condense makes a word of difference in being able to remember where everything is

oh not to mention if you ever have to go into safemode or reset your pc you can't safely store all the locations of the icons and they can get jumbled up or even removed. but there was no way to store that instance/borde of all your icons somewhere and just pull it back out later

must be how my mom would feel when she was up for a few days and had stuff all over her bed but needed to put it away to sleep but wanted to know where everything was and eventually have to talk her into letting us put it in a box but then have to spend all that time later pulling it out and putting it back exactly where it was to pick up from where you left off

at this rate looks like i might have to do something like an excell spreadsheet and change the size of the frames and put a shortcut to each one in them but then you can't see the picture at a glance sigh. having a 2nd onitor helps unless you have an issue and then it trys to cram it into 1 background

omfg I guess this is why i can't find what I need noone else has the same issue. storage in that way is terrible for some people. if i can't turn organize folder off and be able to copy and paste the whole background into the founder without it changing the coordinates of the icons then its not going to help me

folders are not easy access they like to put it in list format and remove all the sorting you just did for their own custom sort and they don't want gaps in the list, they jsut grab everything and throw it in a list back to back removing your locations

ok think bulletin board, it starts to get full but you don't want to remove everything off of it and stick it in a box, you want to use another bulletin board, if you needed to look at something from the old one you pull it out over the new one and knew exactly where that pinned item was, if you have 150 items sometimes it helps to be able to go "oh yeah that was over here near the top right like a few inches from the top and right side, ah here it is"

There is. It's called multiple desktops. In Windows 10 there's a symbol next to the start menu that looks like a couple of rectangles stacked vertically with a tiny scroll bar next to it. Click that and you can make as many desktops as you like and switch between them.

Nvm, desktop icons still seem to be shared.

I've never thought about the "position" no matter how many files I had to deal with. Just like one organizes physical files by subject, name, date etc. in a cabinet, in a computer one organizes it with folders for subjects and files by name, date etc.

Pictures? Go to you pictures folder. Music? Go to your music folder etc. It makes sense the way they are designed. Position doesn't make sense in the context of computers and isn't convenient. as itl'll in the least change with resolution, window size, icon size you name it. As you've discovered, physical location is problematic and unreliable.

Surely there is a better system for your sorting then just remembering the location. They'll probably have an occasion, subject, name or other topic associated to them that makes them sortable.

well tagging does not really work since it takes so long for it to search at times and you always deem to forget atleast a couple tags and end up trying to search by a tag you did not include when looing for a picture of something you remember seeing and want to show to a friend but can't find it anywhere because it was a few wees ago you had it and now its lost in your folders containing thousands
