This is the first time I've ever encountered such an issue but, it seems that after getting the new Windows 10 version 20H2 update, there is great delay in almost every process. This includes opening apps and even using the START MENU!

It takes my laptop, quite literally, 5 seconds to open the start menu or reopen any app I have in my task bar!

I am posting this here with hopes to find a way to fix this issue, as not only is it very frustrating but it's also got some impact on my work which I do from home.

BTW, I am using an Acer Predator Helios 300 of 2019. This is why I really don't think it's the laptop's specs.

The relevant specs are:

CPU: Intel Core i7 9750H

Memory: 16 GB DDR4 2667 MHz

Disk (Windows): NVME WDC PC SN720 SDA

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti

I'd suggest rolling back to the previous version. I've not encountered this issue on any of my systems, but 20H2 hasn't been out that long, so there's bound to still be bugs.

EDIT: Also, is this a very recent upgrade (as in, within the last few hours?). If so, give it some time as the WMI and Net runtime optimisation processes can stay active for quite a while after updates/upgrades and can slow down the start menu and other windows functions considerably.

I did, in fact, get it a couple of hours ago, so I will wait till the end of the day before trying to roll back.

Thanks for your response though ^^

Take a look at task manager, I'd expect to see Windows Module Installer and/or Net runtime optimisation taking up a large amount of CPU and disk usage. If you have anti-virus installed, you might see that also having high CPU usage as it scans stuff.

Too late to correct this problem, but it's good practice to always delay updates as there are always issues on Patch Tuesday.  I don't accept any updates until four weeks after the release.  There are some good sites out there that track Windows updates every month.
