True Dolby surround 5.1

Go to solution Solved by Exidor,

If you use the TV ARC then you will get compressed 5.1

For uncompressed you need either a TV with EARC (not recommended buggy as hell trust me)

Or you buy a AV receive that supports HDMI 2.0b or 2.1 if you want to go Nvidia 3000 series later and get a monitor TV that supports 4k 120Hz. Then you hook your PC to the AV receive and get full sound just remember that you need a AV receive that supports LPCM format. And then use the HDMI out port to hook your AV receive to your TV.

Right now it is very difficult to find a AV receive that supports HDMI 2.1 they all have bugs.... You can Goolge and read also they are very expensive we are talking 1500 euros.

The Arcana allows you to split the signal into Video and Audio. It takes in one HDMI signal from your PC and outputs two HDMI signals one that carries video full HDMI 2.0B support and a second that carries the full audio that has everything including 3d sound like Atmos.

I would recommend you buy a AV receive that supports LPCM and atmos. And has normal HDMI 2.0b outs for video passthrough. You can get an OK one for relatively cheap right now. And hook you PC to AV receive then the AV receive to your TV. That will work without bugs.

Later when you get a HDMI 2.1 GPU and a HDMI 2.1 TV or monitor I would buy the next generation Arcana that they promised to release second half of this year so you do not need to change you AV receive and can hook up what ever TV or monitor you want.

!!!!

So for a 4k 120Hz video you need HDMI 2.1 But not for audio. All audio formats including Atmos run fine on HDMI2.0b.

PC audio is often outputted over HDMI in LPCM format so whatever AV receive (most of them support this) or soundbar (read carefully many do not support this) needs to support LPCM format.

Optical audio is basically dead. They only support compressed 5.1 and are slowly dying out. Only useful for legacy systems.

This is my scnenario..
I have a gaming pc and a tv, both of which I want to hook up to a surround sound system. The pc is capable of up to 5 channels via its front rear and sub auxiliary ports and the tv has an optical digital (toslink) port . The tv is a Hisense 4K 65in Roku tv and the gaming pc also has spdif (capable of compressed 5.1.
I want a way to hook BOTH devices up to an AV receiver and have uncompressed true Dolby surround where each speaker can play individually.
I have heard hdmi is the only way for this but I have also heard arc only does up to 5.1 compressed. And my TV does not support e-arc.
I have a few amps but if I need a special one to do this please give suggestions.
My budget is 200 for an av receiver.
Or if I need a new surround system budget is 2-300.
Thanks ahead!!

Uncompressed is only over HDMI.

For gaming you also need LPCM support.

There are ways to add EARC to non capable devises like hits.

Thanks for your reply,

Most hdmi audio extractors I’ve viewed only support stereo or compressed 5.1

Could you link me to one that has uncompressed 5.1?

thanks again!

The only one I know.....

I really hope they release a HDMI2.1 this supports HDMI2.0B so unless you need HDMI 2.1 this will work.

They promised one with 2.1

And I need one because LG canceled some codec support on the LG CX..... I learned to hate everything that is HDMI EARC or ARC

I would possibly hold of they are promising a HDMI2.1 version......

That will probably take more than half a year...

But HDMI 2.1 is the future.

The Arcana should fix all your issues for now.

But trust me EARC is a clusterfuck so you want a device that actually supports all the codecs and offers no lag.

LG Samsung and all the others have buggy shit implementations so getting a device like this unless you are planning to get a high end receiver is the smart thing to do.

As soon as they release one that is HDMI 2.1 compatible I am getting 2.

For getting 5-7 channels of audio on the TV couldn’t I use the optical port? I believe optical is capable of 7 channels. I do know that spdif is not capable of 5-7 channels (uncompressed)

but for more than 7 channels I will need the e-arc processor?

or are you saying I’ll need the e-arc processor for the pc?

Does the  AV receiver have HDMI in?

Do I understand this correctly you have a TV Hisens and some sort ov  AV receiver?

Basically if you get the Arcana it will split the signal.

One port will pass through HDMI video to your TV with full HDMI 2.0b range.

The other port will output HDMI audio that you can hook up to anything that takes HDMI as an input. The  AV receiver does not need EARC or ARC for this to work you just plug it into a HDMI port.

To get PC audio you would need to hook the PC to the Arcana then the Arcana to your TV and the other port on the Arcana to your  AV receiver but remember most PC audio is in PCM or LPCM format so you need a AV receiver that supports LPCM

As far as I know optical supports only compressed 5.1 and lower.

If you have a  AV receiver with HDMI in I would not bother with Optical at all.

Here is my full setup:

I have a few different amps that have optical but no hdmi, however, I am fully capable of buying one.

If I’m understanding correctly, if I did buy one I would need to plug the tv into the avr via the arc port and then the from the avr to my 5 speakers and sub via speaker wire.

my tv has hdmi 2.0 ports that support 4K 60hz hdr as well as an optical port, and headphone jack.

my pc has spdif, hdmi, display port, and 3 auxiliary ports (green-front, black-rear, and orange-sub) I currently have to use 3 amps and hook two speakers up to each amp and use auxiliary and the third amp is plugged into the sub.

But using this method (ARC) I though arc only can do 2 channels of uncompressed and 5-7 channels of compressed

Or does hdmi 2.0 (4k@60) support 5-7 channels uncompressed and what I read about arc only supporting 5 channels uncompressed is for older versions of hdmi

Just to clarify, I only want 5-7 channels of uncompressed audio

thanks, hope this clears any misunderstandings.

Thank you so much, I think I finally get it now. There’s just soooo many cables lol

So I might just go the arcana route and buy an avr with hdmi 2.0b

That arcana sounds brilliant!

So, with the arcana I can take my tv which has hdmi 2.0b and turn it into an e-arc port? How does that even work?

Im going to look more into the Arcana and how it works on YouTube and do my research but I really appreciate all of your time, if possible how do I set your response to “best response” ?

Yea no problem,

Hope you find a solution that works for you.

The Arcana is pretty unique it is a full AV processor with scaling and everything.

One thing it splits the incoming HDMI signal. So if you are using the TV tuner or the TV inbuilt apps to watch stuff then you will not get audio to the Arcana. Then you need a TV with EARC...

Im assuming that includes the inbuilt Roku inside the tv.

so I will have to use my pc or an Apple TV or something to stream Dolby movies.

Source needs to be connected to the AV receiver or to the Arcana if you go that root.

Hey quick question, if I buy that arcana converter will it work with a hdmi “arc” avr (not e-arc) or will it produce arc (5.1 compressed) quality sound?

The AV receive just needs HDMI 2.0b in.

So yes if you plug into the Arvana and from the Arcana to the AV receive then the AV receive does not need Arc or Earc just use the correct IN port.

But if the AV receive has HDMI in chances are it has a HDMI 2.0b out to forward video to the TV so you maybe do not need the Arcana yet.

Arc of Earc are important if you use the device as a source so like if you use the TV as a source or if you use the AV receive to send the signal to another device.
