Z420 Disk I/O Errors

So what do I hook it up to instead? Because all of the SATA ports are raid-enabled. So do I have to buy a PCI-e card?

A quick look at the HP Z420 specs says it has both SATA and integrated RAID, which makes it sound like some of those SATA-ports are not connected to the hardware-RAID but instead a BIOS-RAID (which is technically just a bad software-RAID). If that's correct, you could try those SATA-ports that are not connected the hardware-RAID. That said, I don't have Z420 and I am just guessing from the specs on HP's website.

As for suggestions: I don't really have any good ones. Google the RAID-card and Linux-issues with it, or buy a SATA-card, I guess.

I have built a Z420 server on linux with no success after the first couple days. What I mean by that is it works for a couple days then just spams the console with I/O errors on any linux flavor I try. I ordered two new SSDs and it still didn't change. I also ordered a new motherboard also. I ran badblocks on the SSDs on another system and it was inconclusive because they passed. I factory reset multiple times and it always after a couple days of working perfectly it does it again. I also did a memory test and the RAM was fine also.

These SSDs are connected to a hardware RAID-interface, aren't they? The issues you have sound similar to what I have with an HBA-card.

Yeah but i did also do it without raid on a different SSD

Quote people when you reply to them, so they get a notification. Also, I didn't ask if you were using RAID. I specifically asked if they are connected to the RAID-interface; in my case, it did not matter whether I was actually using RAID or not, only that the devices were connected to the interface.

Ok sorry about that. And yeah the are hooked up to raid-enabled interfaces.

Then that's pretty much 100% certainly the culprit.

So I got the card (PEXSAT34RH) and I can not get it to boot into the config utility. I've tried a lot of bios settings and still can't figure it out.

Thanks,
