You could try reinstalling Windows. Could you do a CPU stress test to see if there are any thermal issues. Also are you using an SSD or Hard Drive. If the later, try defragmenting your drive

don't really want to reinstall windows, got so many files I need to keep.

Will run a stress test, or maybe just leave HWMonitor open to see what max temps the cpu hits

i know this isn't helpful but I have to: The elusive @RTX 3090 has appeared.

Now onto something a little more useful: It could be a RAM limitation but either way we can't really tell unless you could provide us with some specs

For the past few hours when working on my pc, it starts to freeze up.

As in, the start menu stops working, or ms word crashes.

Even after multiple reboots, still does the same thing.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the signs of a failing hard drive to me.

it is a cheap ssd

think the power outage had anything to do with it?

pc wasnt on at the time

Classic signs of a bad drive, SSD or Mechanical, is opening things, extreme laggy unresponsive OS and later on BSODs because of it. Signs of bad RAM would be copying files and then the system locks up or the files are unreadable. Have you tried downloading stuff, if it those fail it is a clear sign of something is wrong with your storage. Make sure to have everything important backed up asap. Mechanical drives can be restored for quite some time but SSDs may not work the next time you power on the system.

it did start locking up when working off a NAS

but I can't get my head around basic features like the start menu locking up 🤔

Is XMP/DOCP enabled in BIOS? and is the RAM running at 3200Mhz? if so then that might be the cause of your frequent crashes, 1st Gen Ryzen doesn't do well with Memory frequencies above 2933Mhz.

I've been running 3200mhz for about a year now, maybe tune it down?

Hmm strange, maybe it's the AF model of the 1600 which is based on 2nd Gen, but either way I'd still recommend to turn off XMP/DOCP to see if that fixes it, I still wouldn't recommend running 3200Mhz on 2nd Gen either as that has been problematic for some, if disabling XMP fixes it then check if it's the AF model on the box and if it is, then lower the RAM frequency manually to 3000Mhz, and if it's not then lower it to 2933Mhz.
