Mobo is a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 (got it right when Ryzen 1000 came out)

I updated the bios in order to use my shiny new 3700x, and had a couple of hiccups with the installation of the new CPU, but nothing too serious. I then see in my audio software that my mic is barely showing up whenever I talk, so I added some more gain to mitigate this. I quickly realized, however, that I was experiencing the same issue that I had run into when attempting to update the audio drivers a month or so ago. The issue here is not just that it's quiet, which is only slightly annoying, but that whenever I sustain a moderately loud tone or the mic picks up a particularly loud sound, it somehow cranks the gain up so high that others listening can't stand it, although only for as long as the sound is made plus a few seconds. This could be some kind of port issue where it doesn't send power over the 3.5mm jack (I am using a condenser mic after all), but I don't understand why a BIOS update AND an audio driver update would both do the exact same thing. I figured it was just bad drivers last time, but now I don't exactly know what the issue is, and I can't really go back bios versions since I'm now using a Matisse CPU which requires newer drivers.

Any help on this topic would be much appreciated 😄

I just tried plugging in my phantom power supply to see if it was an issue with power to the mic, and it made no difference. There has to be some kind of issue with either the drivers or the bios or how they interpret the sound before sending it to windows, unless I'm missing something here.

Okay, so I completely turned off the built-in microphone boost option and I'm controlling the sound with software atm (Voicemeeter Potato to be specific), and that seems to have gotten rid of the issue, but I'll do some further investigating to try and figure this one out.
