I've tried searching around to see if anyone has any data or has asked before but I cant see where anyone has. Ive got a rtx 2070 super, with a ryzen 5 3600, 64 gb ram, 2 tb nvme ssds, pro4 matx mobo, with a Corsiar 240mm AIO and 4 120mm fans. Im planning on upgrading soon, 3000 series gpu with the 5000 series cpu, but im wanting to get away from my crystal 280x case. Im wanting to build it inside of the desktop essentially, but I cant find out which airflow solution would be the best. Would it be best to have it flowing front/back or in a U shaped flow with the fans on the same side, but something separating the middle so thr air traverses the mobo. Also, would water cooling be more beneficial on one of the airflow setups more so than the other? Sorry if it was ramblish, but any help would be appreciated!

Do not do a U shape. Hot air will just circulate. I would put my intake and exhaust at opposite sides of the case and also takes into consideration asthetics. If they are not going to be obstructed I would put the fans down the sides. Fans come with a CFM metric so you can work out how many fans you will need to compare performance with a PC case.

Ah alright, I was thinking this but then I kept having doubts about it as well. Im definitely wanting this thing to be aesthetically pleasing for sure. Im trying to work out which way would be best to mount them, if I did front to back it would have to be a 5" tall desk for 120mm fans, I feel like if I did it side to side I would have to much room to cover with the desk being 72" wide. Do you have any recommendations for finding out what cfm would be needed? Right now I'm estimating the open area where the mobo is going to sit to be 15"x15"x5". Would it be possible to have a set of fans vertically at the back for exhaust, and horizontally up front for intake? If its pulling from the bottom outside air

Thanks in advance!

I once saw a desk with bottom exhaust (on radiators) and intake hidden. RGB fans look nice when in the exhaust position and positioned down each side of the motherboard. I will have to scroll through a lot of google image search to find it. It was like a PC blood eagle.

Thanks, you've been a ton of help. If you find it let me know, that sounds interesting af! The only reason I would be after doing the front horizontal is so I can lay the fans down and not make it 5 inches tall front to back, I could wedge it or something if I could lay them down horizontally. I've been and will have to pry a bit more, but thanks for all the info!

do a google image search and you can see a lot of people angle the fans to keep the table thin. You do need to have room for your legs

I've been trying to, a lot of the pictures seem relatively useless for some of the info im trying to get just because its a wrong angle or something. I may have to try and find one local to me to go take a gander
