Hi all, I’m having issues with a new build and I was hoping someone might be able to hope. I am not able to get the motherboard to post at all. I’ve updated the bios to the latest (non-beta) version and reset the CMOS, this hadn’t fixed the issue but it did turn of the CPU led.

Specs:

CPU: Ryen 5900X

MOBO: MSI Gaming Edge WIFI X570.

RAM: 64gb CMK64GX4M2E3200C16 (I know, it’s a lot. But i’m a machine learning scientist who works with large datasets. 64gb still isn’t enough).

GPU: GTX 1060 (I plan to update this but, you know, scalpers…)

SSD: Samsung Evo 970

HDD: 4TB WD Black.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've checked he CPU and all the pins seem undamaged, I'm starting to think perhaps the motherboard is faulty.

Try the latest version beta included. Also you are plugged into the 1060 right?

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

I've tried the latest bios included with the motherboard, the latest stable version and the latest beta version, sadly none of them worked. Yes, the 1060 is both powered and the connected to the monitor since the 5900X has no igpu

Any other warning lights showing? Have you tried booting with a single set of memory or a single dimm, maybe one is bad. Did you connect all the power cables to the motherboard? Did you connect the power cables to the gpu?

Only the boot led is showing on the EZ Debug output. I've tried different combinations of RAM but nothing worked so I've left them in A2/B2 slots. Currently I'm just testing stuff so I don't have the motherboard in the case, with only the motherboard power cable, cpu power cable and gpu power cable plugged in (and the front panel connectors to power on the board).

Are you using a new power supply as well or something old?

Btw. do you have an old speaker from another case to heat beeps from the motherboard?

I've only got something old at the moment from my last computer - Corsair CX600M. I've never had an issue with it and it's always been reliable so I've assumed it should work but I'm no longer sure.

I'm not sure about the boot beeps. It's never made a noise and I believe this motherboard has it disabled by default.

Newer boards rarely ship with an integrated speaker but most have pins for it. Check at the bottom right corner. Usually it is a flat line of 4 pins with on missing so like 1-1-0-1. If it beeps, the board may be fine. You can try something else, try posting without the cpu installed and see if it throws an error. If not, the board is not working properly.

I've tried the speaker but there was no noise - maybe because it's disabled on board? I've tried posting without the CPU, the board doesn't post but it does light up the CPU led on the EZ Debug output.

Maybe you have a bad CPU then. One thing you can try is to remove the cmos battery completely for a couple of minutes. Also make sure to unplug the power supply and then try starting the system a couple of times to discharge the motherboard before reinserting the battery cell. I am guessing you don't have another amd cpu to test with?

I've just tried that, I removed the CMOS for 10mins just to make sure and jumped the battery aswell with nothing plugged in and all discharged. Sadly I don't have another comparable CPU to test with.

Where did you buy the parts? Can your return them locally?

CPU from Overclockers (UK) and Mobo from amazon. Neither of which were local since my area in the UK is in currently the highest lockdown.

Yeah I know. Maybe ask Overclockers UK to send over a cheap Ryzen APU like the 220g (I believe it is compatible with your board but check before first, could be incompabitbel with the latest bios version) to test out the board or just buy one. Replacing the board via amazon is usually not an issue but make sure it is the board first as their process takes some time. Seeing that the motherboard throws an error with the cpu removed, I do suspect the cpu to be at fault.

Ha, I have that exact memory in my setup (and 64gb is really lacking already).

As for you problem, since it seems like you tried almost everything possible, I'd just return the mobo since it seems the most likely culprit. It could be the CPU as well, but CPU problems are really rare so I'd only leave it as a last option.
