Hello, I have finished my pc build today (I am still very new to this and don't really know what I am doing)

Anyways, I really want a 3080, but I have no clue when I would be able to get my hands on one besides paying over 1k which I don't want to, I don't even want to pay more than around £700 for one as it isn't worth it, but I have all my other components ready and I don't know what to do. I was so damn excited at first but now it looks like it won't happen anytime soon at a reasonable price.

I guess this is more frustration related post too but also asking for some advice as in do I wait for 3080 or do I just go for another GPU that's likely to arrive sooner?

I wouldn't go for last gen, because you'd be spending the same amount and leaving a lot of performance on the table. I've found that most people (myself included) who managed to get cards used some sort of notification service on twitter or discord that lets you know when something is in stock. The one that I personally used is called StockDrops. It sends notifications through twitter or discord when something comes in stock at a major retailer. It's almost all down to luck, but it is possible.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

Buy something like a GTX 660, they are cheap and work well enough. Wait until prices for modern GPUs come back down to reality.

Then sell the GTX 660 for what you paid for it. (Around here they go for 40$)

the thing that i am also scared about is not knowing if it will be compatible with the case etc, i am new to pc building and never did it before, i would assume most of them should be able to fit pretty well, or i could wait to buy one then just adjust the build if need be

Most modern cases have a lot of space, so I'd doubt you'd have problems, but it's something to consider. What case are you using? It'd probably be best to keep a mental note of any models that wouldn't be compatible so you don't end up accidentally buying a card that doesn't fit.

If you get a single fan option, something like a 1050 Ti, it'll fit even the smallest of cases.

My GTX 660 (for example) is a twin fan monster and it fits in my ITX case.

Now you haven't mentioned which case you bought, but manufacturers go to great length to accommodate all manner of GPU models.

That's a full sized ATX case, you have room inside for Godzilla and King Kong to be roommates and still have space for your video card and mother-in-law.

what other components does it have to be compatible with, or is it just the case pretty much?

Just post your full specs....

But PSU(power supply) is another thing to watch out for.

You want no less than 750W from a decent brand bronze plus PSU
