odd pc

okay... so i put together a pc with old parts.....(ancient, not used)....i want to use it as a linux box....

i press power, and everything is spinning (cpu fan, hd).....but nothing posts on screen. ive tried both mobos display ports (vga and dvi).... but... nothing...

 

please help, this pc has been gathering dust all summer

 

and yes i did pull the cmos battery and ram....

did you make sure that all the parts were compatible? Older systems have problems like this. Also make sure the RAM isn't brand specific

Are you sure you have onboard video on that motherboard / cpu?

ram comes from a dell desktop, u think that is the problrm ?

It could potentially be, although I dont think Dell has made its memory to lock out on other PCs

2gb ram corsair ddr3

psu..... nameless...400watts

mobo, asrock something

hd, 2.5" 250gb

There's a lot of possible causes. Could be the PSU not working properly, or the board not initializing, or (less likely) the iGPU requesting too much VRAM because you only have 2gb RAM.
